Adrian Iftene is a Professor at the "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University of Iasi, Faculty of Computer Science. His research interests include artificial intelligence (text and image processing using statistical techniques, machine learning, and neural networks) and new technologies (augmented and virtual realities, Amazon Alexa, mobile applications, and application control through gestures and with the help of the eyes). In recent years, he has developed applications and frameworks with his students for smart cities and smart health, utilizing artificial intelligence in diseases such as colorectal cancer, stroke, atrial fibrillation, Alzheimer's, malaria, and tuberculosis. Until now, he was involved in 20 research projects, 10 operational programs, 5 Erasmus mobilities, and 3 COST actions. In three projects (MUCKE, Compet IT&C, and IR Smart), he was the project manager, and in the STAGES project, he was the scientific adviser.

Abstract:

The main objective of PrivateSky project is the transfer of information towards the IT industry. The information is the result of the research carried out by Computer Science Faculty from "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University of Iași (UAIC). The new idea promoted by this project is applied thanks to the use of an innovative Cloud architecture relying on executable choreographies meant to develop new technologies, tools and methods to develop the software in cloud. The objective of the project is reached through the establishment of a PaaS (Platform as a Service) platform, entitled PrivateSky, in collaboration with at least 6 SME companies (small and medium-sized enterprises), software developers interested in using the above mentioned technologies. During the entire project, there should be mixed teams of both UAIC researchers and specialists in IT, trying to shape the "ecosystem" meant to meet the views of the market's requirements.

Abstract:

The project we propose has as main objective the creation of an "Ethnolinguistic audio-visual atlas of the cultural food heritage of Bacau County" as a comprehensive database containing the results of field research and scientific documentation on cultural food traditions in the region. The project eCULTFOOD has as area of intervention the intangible cultural heritage of traditional food, fulfilling the function of protection (research, promotion) and dissemination (diffusion, including via new models developed in the on-line environment) supporting, first and foremost, education as cultural intervention. Its main aim is to preserve, in cartographic and computerized form, a representative corpus of audio-visual documents recording the traditional food cultural heritage based on surveys involving the older generation from the rural county of Bacau.

This project addresses the urgent need for documentation of the Cultural Association "Art-Traditions-Heritage without Borders" Bacău which aims to implement an experiential model of cultural education for youth and adults by exploiting the regional traditional food heritage. This objective will be achieved by creating and maintaining an area of training, investigation and exchange of best practices that allow deepening the knowledge related to traditional food culture, with effects on the socio-economic and cultural levels.

Computerization of the traditional food heritage meets the aspirations of EU policies that regard the digitization of cultural resources as a key factor that would contribute to improving accessibility and undivided flow of information in a knowledge economy. Once transposed into electronic format, the cultural food heritage of Bacau County may become a resource for a broad spectrum of activities impacting sectors such as education, economy and tourism.

Scopul acestui proiect este de a crea și consolida colaborarea in cercetarea științifică între România și Valonia - Belgia, în ceea ce privește studiul asupra Evoluției Software, cu aplicații pentru dezvoltarea sistemelor de recomandare bazate pe semantică și GIS. Partenerii implicați în acest proiect sunt Universitatea "Vasile Alecsandri" din Bacău, România (UB) coordonator, Universitatea "Alexandru Iona Cuza" din Iași, România (UAIC) și Universitatea din Mons, Belgia (UMons). Echipele de cercetare implicate în proiect reunesc specialiști în Inginerie Software, Evoluție Software, GIS și Semantic Web. Cooperarea între cercetătorii din ambele țări în cadrul acestui proiect are ca finalitate crearea și la consolidarea cercetării comune, care va contribui la creșterea capacității de cercetare a echipei române și la creșterea vizibilității cercetătorilor români în străinătate. Un alt beneficiu important al acestui proiect constă în crearea de noi oportunități pentru parteneri în vederea aplicării în viitorul apropiat pentru proiecte internaționale de cercetare-dezvoltare, cum ar fi Horizon 2020.

Proiectul creează mediul adecvat pentru inițierea unui parteneriat inovativ și interdisciplinar de cercetare pe termen lung între UB, UAIC și UMons, prin reunirea de cunoștințe și expertiză din diferite domenii științifice precum și conectarea acestora la interesele comune în cercetare a partenerilor.
