Abstract:
Many directions that involve atmospheric pressure plasmas are in study nowadays in research laboratories since they are technologically simple and environmentally friendly. The applications of these plasmas include surface modification and deposition, decontamination and sterilization, trials in cancer therapy and wound healing. The knowledge and precise control of these parameters (temperature, density, reactive species) represents a necessity before any use, industrial or medical, and remains an open challenge. Present proposal consists in a series of studies upon the usage of atmospheric pressure plasma as a technological application for environmentally friendly surface processing method of various polymeric materials used in the medicine, textile and food industry. The main goal being the enhancement of surface adhesion through atmospheric pressure plasma treatment for better ink-printing of plastic material and better inter-layer adhesion of 3D printed plastic objects. The objectives of the project include: the development and characterization of a plasma surface treatment system; study of the effects of plasma exposure of polymeric materials; validation of the efficiency of the plasma system in surface processing and its improvement of adhesion, using surface study techniques (AFM, CA, ATR-FTIR); dissemination of results. The implementation of this project will contribute to the visibility of the scientific community at the international level.
