Abstract:
In the development phase of the energy audit documentation, a significant volume of calculations is generated when evaluating the thermal performance of the building envelope elements. The number of distinct elements of a standard building, e.g. types of exterior walls whose thermal performance is influenced by the position of the wall on the building height,by the geometric dimensions of the elements, by the existence of various types of door and windows openings, leads to an increased variety of thermal performances that should be assessed. For the energy auditing and expertise activity, several computer programs are available, programs that can determine the energy consumptions of buildings requiring as entry data the thermal performance of the building envelope elements. These thermal performances are given with varying degrees of accuracy, usually in the current field of the element without considering the linear thermal bridges. When the linear heat transfer coefficients ψ are used, the details existing in the thermal bridges atlases do not cover the real situations encountered in the current design, thus resorting to approximate details. There exist situations when the technical documentation of the building is not available, which leads to various assumptions regarding the detailing of the building envelope. In this regard, the project proposes the development of a methodology accompanied by software called THERMOG that evaluates the thermal performance of the building envelope under actual operating conditions using the aerial and terrestrial thermography method. The thermal performance assessment is carried out based on the geometrical and physical properties of the component materials upon making the expertise and not based on the normed values or the values declared by the manufacturer. The methodology developed in the project significantly reduces the duration of the auditing activity of a building and obtains results based on the actual behaviour of the build

Abstract:
The aim of the project is to develop a new technology for stabilization/solidification of MSWI residues that can be scale up to a full industrial scale facility, by applying commonly used technology for dense slurry disposal and storage of slag and ash from coal power plants. The innovative concept is based on using fly ash and desulphurization products related to coal incineration as a binder material to stabilize through solidification process the pollutants (heavy metals mostly) contained in MSWI residues. The treatment of MSWI residues by stabilization/solidification method is rendered to be one of the most applied technology. This method is used to encapsulate harmful chemical compounds by absorption, hydration or precipitation reactions, by means of using a binder matrix. The aim of this process is to create new compounds in a stabilized form that encompassing the harmful elements, which are non-hazardous or less hazardous than the raw (initial) material.
Project includes a series of experiments for embedding the MSWI residues into the coal fly ash rock matrix with the support of the preview research results. There will be establish a reasonable small scale landfill disposal dimensions, in order investigate the leaching behaviour on environmental conditions, during a reasonable period of time. The experimental landfill disposal will be exposed into environment. The leaching and percolation test will be done periodically according to standards for tracking the pollutants concentrations migration into environment.
The added value & importance of the technology and the level of the preliminary results were quantified in the patent application registered at Romanian States Office for Invention and Trademarks under no. RO131486 A0.

Abstract:
Energy is the life blood of every society, the well-being of people, industry and economy depending on safe, secure, sustainable and affordable energy.
The concept of this project revolves around two crucial issues for the entire society, both for present and future generations: environment and resources. Subsequently, energy consumption and energy saving are of vital importance in terms of conservation of available resources and enhancement of environmental conditions.
Since energy-efficiency is a central part of the European Economic Recovery Plan, this project is also in line with energy strategy of the European Union (European Commission’s ‘Energy 2020 – A strategy for competitive, sustainable and secure energy’ (COM(2010) 639 Final - 10 November 2010). In this context, The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (Recast), 2010/31/EU, requires that: all new buildings must be Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB) by 2020 and Member States are to set intermediate targets for 2015. Simply defining it, a Nearly Zero Energy Building is a building that has a very high energy performance.
Consequently, the main objectives of the proposed project relate to the design and detailing of a technical solution for NZEBs, and to the validation of such designs through extensive monitoring. Design, detailing and execution do not allude solely to construction elements but also to installation systems. The project deals with the advancement of energy-efficiency of buildings with all aspects of environmentally, economically and socially sustainable construction sector.
Generally, the three directive lines of the project are:
- Design, detailing and execution of a system suitable for achieving NZEB status for a residential building
- Performance assessment of the designed system for the NZEB through extensive monitoring of physical and hygro-thermal parameters
- Compiling of specific guidelines for design, detailing and execution of the NZEB system.
