Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically altered the life and prospects of consumers, organizations, and contemporary society, leaving deep marks for future years. Almost everyone had to change habits, preferences, leaving standards and styles and behaviours to adapt to the new challenging situation. Isolation and physical distancing have led to an increased use of technology: when speaking to friends and colleagues, using the social media, collecting information about products, brands and/or companies, but also when buying groceries or non-food products. Retailers had also to adapt especially to the shifting expectations and buying behaviours of consumers, thus developing mobile apps, online stores or closing partnerships with third service providers like delivery services to maintain and/or increase customer fulfilment, satisfaction, and loyalty. Finding quick, innovative and proper solutions for such shocks is no easy task, as an important question rise: how might the retail sector develop after the COVID-19 pandemic, what effects and consequences will the increased use of technology have on future consumer expectations, buying habits, preferences and how will the “New Normal” be for both retailers and consumers. This research proposal aims at addressing this under covered research topic, thus ensuring that at the end of the project a collection of best practices based on primary and secondary data will be available for managers, consumers, and academia.

Abstract:
Over the past years, both researchers and practitioners have acknowledged the fact that the sustainable competitive advantage is system-driven and it does not rely on remote capabilities or activities. Since then, organizations have struggled to establish a culture of sharing knowledge through knowledge networks - at both intra- and inter-organizational levels, hence assuming the substantial benefits for individuals, groups, organizations and networks at large. Progressively, new business models have been expected to emerge, driven by consistent interactions among people, organizations, knowledge, information, expertise, competences, know-how within complex and dynamic collaborative networks. Giving credit to the state-of-the-art, the present project proposal aims to thoroughly investigate the impact of knowledge networks on generating sustainable competitive advantage, starting from the individual microcosm to the organizational systems macrocosm. The proposal envisages the analysis of two main types of knowledge networks (formed of for-profit organizations – e.g., small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and higher education institutions (HEIs) – e.g., universities), understood as inter-organizational collaborations based on substantial and consistent knowledge sharing which are expected to support the achievement of sustainable competitive advantages for all involved actors (individuals, organizations and networks themselves). The individual is considered a key actor (node) in the process of knowledge sharing whereas the organizations he/she is affiliated with is considered a key catalyst of knowledge sharing within strong collaborative networks via both formal and informal policies and support. A cross-sectorial approach would engender fine-grained comparative insights into two different, yet interrelated fields and would open up a new research agenda for all the stakeholders.

Abstract:
The ALIGN-CCUS (ALIGN) project is a joint industry-led research initiative to accelerate the demonstration and implementation of the next-phase of European CCUS (Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage) projects by addressing specific R&D gaps across the CCUS chain. The mission of ALIGN is to overcome hurdles for initial projects and to prepare for large scale, cost effective, implementation of CCUS. The proposal is structured to meet the immediate R&D needs of industry, combined with foresight to overcome challenges linked to the wider commercialization of the technology through capture at integrated industrial and power clusters. The ALIGN consortium offers pilot plants and other state of the art test facilities such as the Technology Centre Mongstad (TCM, Norway), RWE (Niederaussem, Germany), UNIPER (Wilhelmshaven, Germany) and the CO2 Corrosion Test Facility offered by IFE Venture (Norway) to test key components of the process with underpinning modelling and analysis. In addition to testing at existing pilot plants, a pilot installation for the conversion of CO2 to transport fuels (DME/Methanol) will be installed and tested.
In addition to the other five work packages which cover the main phases in the CCUS chain, the Work Package 6 has as main objective to find the most effective strategies and messages to communicate the technical and economic feasibility. Presenting evidence-based information on the environmental impact assessment to decision-makers and to the wider society is crucial for the acceptance of CCUS, and an important element of ALIGN.

Abstract:
In the framework of a fast-changing globalized economy, European SMEs are at the crossroads of external pressures (international and global) and internal reaction constraints, and, thus, a proper assessment of the impact of the intellectual capital available within the organization and business networks is a prerequisite for competitiveness and international expansion. Despite the topicality and relevance of these factors, the specialized literature (in Romania, but not only) shallowly approaches the issue, and many research gaps are yet to be filled in. Consequently, the research project advances and draws upon the importance of leveraging European SMEs' intellectual capital in the context of internationalization and development of sustainable international partnerships. The expected impact of the project includes: the development and operationalization of an interdisciplinary theoretical model and the development of a research instrument liable to correlate intellectual capital with the SMEs' internationalization endeavors; testing the model and the instruments in different industries and areas of activity in Romania; the establishment of a benchmark for future researches; the development of a research report on the level and forms of accessing the intellectual capital by European SMEs correlated with the internationalization process and the development of international partnerships; the technological transfer of the research conclusions into the organizational practice by disseminating the project’s results.
