Abstract:
The project proposes a contrastive and interdisciplinary, diachronic, diatopic and diastratic research: Romanian astronomical terminology, both scientific and popular, denoting cosmic phenomena, processes, objects and constellations. The goal is a cca 600 p. volume containing: (i) a suite of linguistic studies relating to the object of study; (ii) a dictionary as a database for (i). On a theoretical and methodological level, this project constitutes the follow-up to a previous research on the meteorological terminology of atmospheric phenomena, which has been successfully completed.
The research is expected to: 1) constitute the first complete linguistic analysis of astronomical lexemes (Ts) through collaboration with the astronomy and the dialectology experts included in the team; 2) establish a complete database of popular and dialectical terms (Tp); 3) interrelate Ts and Tp by explaining Ts elements in layman’s terms and clarifying a series of Tp elements; 4) put together the first complete dictionary of astronomical terminology, in accordance with lexicographical norms (the experience of the team as authors of the DLR is taken into account).
As an absolute premiere in Romanian astronomy and linguistics, the Ts specific outline of the sky (cosmic objects and constellations), as delimited by the Romanian language, will be identified and examined.

Abstract:
The expansion of Catholicism and Protestantism in Eastern Europe in the first half of the 17th century determined a strong reaction of the Orthodox clergy, which led to the emergence of numerous Slavonic linguistic instruments, among which the Slavonic-Ukrainian Lexicon by Pamvo Berynda (Lexikon slavenorosskij i imenь tlьkovanije, Kiev, 1627). Considering the close relations between the Romanian states and Ukraine, Berynda’s lexicon had a strong impact in the Romanian space, which resulted in six Slavonic-Romanian dictionaries, all manuscript. Although they are the oldest Romanian bilingual dictionaries, and thus of great importance for Romanian culture, only one of these (The Lexicon of Mardarie, 1649) has been edited (1900); as regards the others, there have been initiated various investigations, claiming the need for their comparative study, in order to establish the links between them, as well as their relation with the source.
The project proposes an online comparative edition of these Slavonic-Romanian lexicons. We will start from each entry from Berynda’s lexicon, and we will record the equivalents and/ or the explanations it receives in the Romanian lexicons. The lexicons will be displayed online, in a digital comparative edition, with an interface that will allow complex queries, combining the information available in lexicons and searching for parts of words. The comparative approach will allow establishing the relations between them, whether they are independent or copies of the same source. This online edition will be a very useful tool, easy to reach by lexicographers, specialists interested in old Romanian corpora and other aspects pertaining to their exploitation and will make available to those interested, as open access corpus, this important and almost unknown part of the Romanian cultural heritage.

Abstract:
The project will solve one of the most necessary technology for treasuring in modern conditions the Romanian written heritage. Old documents written in the Cyrillic alphabet will be digitised, cleaned, segmented and then transcribed into the Latin alphabet. In order to do that, state of the art neural and vectorial models will be used and implemented. Proper annotation of primary documents, which will include segmentation of images and contextual transliteration of the content, assured by highly qualified linguist experts, will be used as training data. For a proper organisation of the research activities, we consider documents classified on 3 levels of processing difficulty (low, medium and high) and two types: prints and uncial (hand reproductions of printed majuscules). Manuscripts with ligatures will not be considered in this project. The collection of documents will pass three processing phases: primary (scans of original pages), manual annotation (of columns, lines, words and characters and their Latin transcription - seen as gold files) and the result of automatic processing (test files). Evaluation will be done by comparing test files against gold files. A proposed acceptability threshold should be obtained. The project’s evolution and its acquired data and results will be hosted by a Portal. Significant attention is attributed to dissemination actions.

Abstract:
The project is one of the academic approaches related to the digitization of the Romanian language, to the information technology in general and to the informational and knowledge society in particular, illustrating the proper collaboration between linguists and IT specialists and being part of a digitization strategy of the Romanian linguistic research, established by the Romanian Philology Institute Alexandru Philippide of the Romanian Academy, in collaboration with the Informatics Faculty of Alexandru Ioan Cuza University and with Romanian Academy’s Theoretical Informatics Institute. This strategy has so far been put into practice by the Philippide Institute, through certain projects for the acquisition in electronic format of the Romanian Thesaurus Dictionary and of the sources from its Bibliography (by finalizing three grants and by participating in eDTLR, project financed by CNMP); there were also significant results in digitizing the New Regional Linguistic Atlas. Moldova and Bucovina. or the Dictionary of the Romanian literature.
The present project has as purpose the valorisation of certain results from the complex project eDTLR, by using, as reference text for the alignment, the Thesaurus Dictionary in electronic format and especially creating a Romanian lexicographic corpus, which will contain 100 dictionaries (from the XVIth century to present day) aligned at entry and meaning level. We will also realize an interface which will allow, on one hand, the consultation of this corpus and, on the other hand, correcting and bringing up-to-date the present DLR edition, as well as preparing the future editions of the Academy Dictionary.
At the same time, the lexicographic corpus realized by us will constitute an useful database for linguistic research, in the country or abroad, having the potential of being useful, at its turn, in future project for implementing and developing the Romanian fundamental humanist research according to international standards.
