Abstract:
The cross-border area concerned is a single and compact cross-border area that has similar characteristics and challenges. Challenges it tackles: Energy is the factor with the most significant impact on the economic and tourism development, being an essential element of sustainable development, therefore the efforts made by each of us to improve the way we use energy must become a priority. But till today renewable energy sources have a minimal role in the current energy structure.
Energy education is fundamental and is the long-term solution to cultivate people’s green living senses. Besides, there are great needs in communities/small cities and villages in making the effective decisions in saving energy and using the renewable resources of energy. The project makes great contribution to the global GHG emission reduction with implemented pilots aimed to protect the environment and its resources.
The overall objective of the project is to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy sources through education activities in Universities and communities aimed at sustainable use of the environment in border regions.
The following achievements and changes will be reached as a result of project realization: Improved regional situation of sustainable use of the environment in the cross-border area because of the effective and innovative energy solutions in communities provided as a result of cooperation with Universities and professional institutions. The following results are expected:
1. Increased capacities in renewable resources of energy in communities and educational institutions in border regions
2. Population of border regions served by new Energy infrastructure in HU,SK,RO,UA. 3 pilot communities in each country: appr. 15000 pers.
3. Raised awareness of the population by providing new educational sessions and informational exchange. The project proposes the innovative approach based on cooperation: Universities- Self-Governments - NGOs- Communities.

Abstract:
Increase of the usage of new technologies and innovations in the field of renewable energy provided by promotion and support to researches and innovations in a sustainable way in the border regions of Ukraine and Romania. Establishment of a strong platform for joint research actions and studies (including related equipment procurement) in the field of renewable energy and resource efficiency.
Creation of the institutional and informational basis for conducting common theoretical and practical baseline researches on efficient energy consumption in border regions of Romania and Ukraine with the focus on universities and practical introductions in the communities.
Achievement of specific objective1 will be provided through the establishment of specialized Energy Innovation Centres and Energy Laboratories in border regions of Romania and Ukraine for providing researches, energy monitoring, efficiency and renewable energy sources using and providing support for communities and young specialists as well as students; creating trained teams in each partner region through common trainings of the personnel that will be running the centre which will then be able to teach and advice the visitors on sustainable energy and climate change issues, holding thematic workshops, trainings and best practices exchange sessions; Introduction of the Cross-Border Cooperation Smart Energy Concept in the border regions of Romania and Ukraine through holding joint research actions and establishment of the common institutional basis. Providing innovative approach in energy efficiency and renewable energy sources in border regions through the development the Cross-Border Cooperation Energy Concept for pilot communities and universities is based on the clusters approach “Universities-Communities”; strengthening cross-border cooperation; facilitating the exchange of experience and best practices between the partners and pilot communities regarding regional sustainable energy strategies, awareness and education policies, actions and projects carried out in their region through workshops and study tours organized in each partner region.

Abstract:
The HORESEC project supports intelligent specialization in the energy field through a holistic analysis of renewable energy sources impact on climate change and on each other, fulfilling the objectives of sustainable development as well as advanced and progressive knowledge. Accelerate integration of RES set a new world record regarding grid’s capacity to absorb intermittent energy, which is specific to renewable energy production, was driven by a fast reduction of related technologies expenses. Increased share of RES in energy production greatly complicates the operation of current systems requiring new long-term storage solutions, developed in the HORESEC project. It will be carried out on a pilot plant test solutions for dynamic adaptation of the system to increase RES share in the energy production, including long-term storage solutions. The objectives are: Establishing the main climatological and environmental parameters with impact on RES and reciprocally. By realizing the mathematical model of the analyzed factors evolution, will be identified the climatological, environmental and social indicators associated with the RES dynamics, which will be subsequently verified on the developed pilot installation; Efficiency of energy production through new technologies and algorithms to optimize the RES response by developing new methods and measurement models; By analyzing complex compounds of biofuels, will be defined a matrix of biofuels, which shall be tested on a pilot combustion plant and on a diesel engine with the aim of obtaining new patentable technologies. The use of biomass will take place in an integrated stream with the production and storage of hydrogen and methanisation and ultimately sustainable reduction of CO2 emissions; Finding innovative storage solutions for medium and long term; Demonstration of project feasibility through experimental determinations on a pilot plant, facilitating the acquisition of research results by the industrial environment.

Abstract:
The combined heat and power plant based on ORC technology belonging to S.C. RIG Biomass S.R.L. Tarcau became operational in the year 2015.
The technical features in nominal conditions: rated electrical power - 1278 kWe, rated thermal power - 5386 kWt and the rated fuel power (biomass) - 7970 kW.
RIG Biomass CHP benefits from licensing for the commercial exploitation of the electricity generation capacity in cogeneration no.1786/15.05.2015 issued by the Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority, valid from 16.05.2015 to 15.05.2040.
The CHP operation is based on the Rankine Organic Cycle (ORC).
The main objective of the project development, resulted from the necessity of the economic agent for the increase of the CHP energy efficiency, is to increase the amount of the electricity qualified as being produced in high efficiency cogeneration.
Currently, only 45% of the electricity delivered is qualified as being produced in high efficiency cogeneration (corresponding to a delivered power of 470 kW).
Applying the identified solutions, following the collaboration between the university and the economic agent in this project, it is estimated that it would have as impact the qualification of over 85% of the electricity delivered as being produced in high efficiency cogeneration.
The specific objectives of the project are: the collaboration between university and the economic agent in order to understand and optimize the operation of the combined heat and power plant; improving the energy efficiency of the combined heat and power plant based on ORC technology; the practical skills training for Master’s students as future researchers through internship programs and involvement in the project.
