Abstract:
Through the objectives, activities and expected results, the project can be included in the program P2 "Increase of economic competitiveness through research & development and innovation" / 2.1 "Competitiveness through research & development and innovation - Experimental demonstrative project ".
The necessity of such a product has been identified by the industrial partner, a company specialized in upholstered products, working mainly for IKEA.
SOFACOMP is a complex project, involving multidisciplinary academic and private participation, in order to achieve composite materials to replace the wood. The new materials are designed for the furniture industry but can also be used for automotive and other household applications.
The project is based on the experience, on the current business and market analysis of the coordinator, specialized in the production of sofas and armchairs. Identifying uncovered trends and market segments that highlight the need for this product in conjunction with training, research capacity, development and innovation by the UTCN partner.
The project develops a new product (the side of the sofa) made of composite material developed by industrial partner, based on the TRL 4. Upon completion, the technological level of the prototype will be TRL 6. Immediately after completion of the project, the coordinator will take serious actions transformation of the prototype at TRL 8 (product completely developed and certified by tests and demonstrations), so as to produce benefits in the first year after project completion. In support of this approach, UTCN having developed material base metal molds will achieve product realization, under a contract financed from own TAPARO.

Abstract:
In the present competitive climate, research knowledge and innovation are seen as the main distinguishing factors of firm success and as the basis of competitive advantages. Following a long tradition of research in the field of innovation, Open Innovation is an approach in which the boundaries of innovation are shifting from a situation where firms conduct research and development activities mainly internally, to a widespread collaboration and external knowledge source, to help them in achieving and sustain innovation. In Open Innovation, which places an equal importance of both internal and external developed knowledge to create business value, the searching and assimilation of externally developed knowledge has become as much important as internal research and development.
Although universities are seen among the most important partners with whom firms can cooperate, from the existing literature on Industry-University relations, quantitative empirical evidence with regards to the development, evolution and sustainability of these relationships in Open Innovation is still very scarce. Within this framework, the project get together in a consortium researchers from University of Oradea, Politechnical University of Timişoara, Technical University of Cluj-Napoca and S.C. Emsiltech Trans SRL, for the development of an environment that promote Industry-University collaboration in Open Innovation, through research activities based on knowledge management and carried out in collaboration by the consortium partners.
As a result, a dynamic structure and a collaboration platform will be created, which will allow to its member to address the main dimensions of Industry-University collaboration in Open Innovation, to establish the maturity level of Industry-University collaboration in Open Innovation, to improve of the Industry-University collaboration in Open Innovation through appropriate policies and procedures and to assess their efficiency.
The main product expected from the proposed project is the Innovative Service for the implementation of the environment that promote Industry-University collaboration in Open Innovation. A software tool to evaluate the maturity level of Open Innovation adoption between Industry-University, as well as a software tool to evaluate the efficiency of Industry-University collaboration in Open Innovation will also be developed. Considering the results reported from other Open Innovation initiatives (such as collaboration with clients and suppliers or with other firms), the expected results of the implementation of such environment are: a) the increasing with at least one level of the Open Innovation maturity of the firms in their collaboration with universities; b) the improvement up to 10-20% of the performance of the different perspectives used to measure the efficiency of Industry-University collaboration in Open Innovation.
The direct beneficiary of the project is the firm partner of the project, which will participate in all phases of the project and will coordinate the implementation of policies and procedures of the environment that promote Industry-University collaboration in Open Innovation within its structure through the Innovative Service, and the evaluation of their efficiency.
The high qualified human resources in the research activities recognized at national/international level, the modern instruments for scientific research, the experience of each partner in the management of projects and the certitude of an efficient collaboration between partners, create all the premises for the success of the project.
In conclusion, the project responds to the requirements of national strategy for scientific research development establish by the National Research-Development and Innovation Plan II, contributing at the development and strengthen of the innovation capacities of firms.

Abstract:
SWARA (Mobile System for Rehabilitative Vocal Assistance of Surgical Aphonia) aims at helping the people who have unfortunately lost their voice to be able to take part in the daily social life with limited restrictions regarding their communication. Medical studies show that in most cases, people who underwent a total laryngectomy for a larynx or hypo pharynx cancer will either refuse, or be unable to use the existing prosthesis available to them on the specialised market. Furthermore, the patient’s family and close friends have trouble accepting their new voice quality or assistive devices. Speech synthesis systems have long been used as an assistive technology for those who have, by various means, lost their ability to speak. But these systems so far, have a number of drawbacks, out of which the most important, is the fact that the number of available voices for the synthesis system are limited, and that they are hard to personalise for each user. Another disadvantage refers to the fact that the speech synthesis devices are actually expensive mini-computers which cannot be carried around all day long. The third disadvantage, and the one which probably is the most important, is that typing the text to be synthesized causes an unpleasant pause in the conversation, and this results in an uncomfortable interaction between the user and an arbitrary interlocutor. Therefore, the main goal of the project is to develop a speech synthesis technology that will allow the people who have surgically lost their ability to speak to communicate with any other person in a more natural manner, without fear of being rejected or misunderstood. This will be achieved through the following primary objectives:
- a personalised speech synthesis system which will use the patient’s voice or a similar one created from a speech database developed within the project;
- a smart text input method which will reduce the unnecessary delays in the dialogue;
- the access of the system via a Cloud-based service from a mobile device, which corresponds to the functional and portability requirements of such a technology.
