Researcher
Dr. Gabriela Petcu is a scientific researcher III at Institute of Physical Chemistry - Ilie Murgulescu of the Romanian Academy . She graduated from University of Bucharest, Faculty of Chemistry in 2017, and received her PhD in 2022 (School of Advanced Studies of the Romanian Academy). Work experience: Synthesis, characterization (UV-Vis, SEM microscopy) of modified mesoporous silica and zeolite materials and evaluation of their catalytic and photocatalytic properties in degradation and valorization of pollutants from water and air (antibiotics, hydrocarbs, alcohols, dyes, CO2), extraction of bio-active compounds from plants, bio-synthesis of plasmonic gold nanoparticles and their immobilization on mesoporous silica and zeolite materials. The photocatalytic tests are performed under irradiation in both, UV and Visible domains. Also, she has expertise on catalytyc pyrolysis processes and synthesys of catalysts based on biochar.

Abstract:
This project aims to develop and to validate a new product and its technology with application in protection of electrical and electronic components of railway safety devices and pumping systems, which can prevent their thermal failure and the risks associated with it. This innovative hybrid PCM - based Temperature Management System (HPCM-TMS) for electric/electronic devices for safety devices used on railways, intends to control the device temperature by diminishing the hot spots and temperature uniformity within a desirable working range, which can extend the device’s life cycle. The main project novelty is related to (i) a strategy to develop an innovative HPCM - TMS system with direct application in the energy field, based on a new formulated inorganic-organic phase-change composite with additions of binary and ternary hybrid nanoparticles (metal-oxide-carbon-based materials), with a high capacity to absorb heat in latent form and a high thermal conductivity performance that ensure a fast response; (ii) provide the first study on the heat dissipation capacity of a new hybrid PCM when interacting with temperature peaks induced by an overheated device and (iii) a rational scientific approach to strike a balance between the effects of improving the HPCM’s stability and thermal conductivity on one side, and the heat storage capacity (the phase transition enthalpy) on the other side. Project objectives are: (i) to optimize product components and to improve their thermal (phase

Abstract:
The cultural heritage, as a source of national historical and cultural authenticity, is subjected to deterioration, and for stopping it, some specific procedures are required: cleaning, replacement of old materials and application of new protective materials compatible with the original, and advanced monitoring with sustainability assessment. The consortium of the present project has a unique expertise in Romania, recognised in Europe, through the many published papers, essential projects in Romania (Basarabi Churches, Potlogi Palace, etc.), OSIM and EPO patents, technology transfer, nanomaterials in chemical and biological preservation for cultural heritage objects and objectives; the partner institutions complement each other on a regional basis in the working plan of the whole project.
The overall objective of the project is to develop new materials, new methods and technologies that obey the principles of authenticity, reversibility and value, with a strong impact on immobile cultural heritage objects (fresco, basreliefs and mosaic) and mobile (decorative artefacts from ceramics, glass, metal, bone, objects of art and archaeology). Specific objectives: Developing innovative technologies for protecting national cultural heritage, multidisciplinary cross-sectoral approach, encouraging young professionals as leaders in heritage preservation, exploitation of research results for new jobs, promoting heritage education, professional expertise among all factors involved in the patrimony protection system.
The project, with a high degree of innovation and originality, applies unique technologies in Romania based on new materials compatible with the original materials and develops new techniques practical applied to: Roman Mosaic and Hypogeum Tomb, Constanta, Adamclisi Museum (basreliefs), Constanta County, Corvin’s Castle (Fresca Loggia Mathia) and Archaeology Museum, Hunedoara.
