Abstract:
The importance of the geological knowledge in drawing up and relaunch the European Economic Area based on the principle of stable development is clearly defined by the programmatic documents of the European Commission such as Water Framework Directive (2000), Raw Materials Initiative (2008), Mining Waste Directive (2006), INSPIRE Directive (2007), Waste Framework Directive (2008), etc., with their counterparts in the National laws. The economical relaunch of our country, in accordance with the principle of the sustainable development, can be imagined only: (1) accepting the implementation of modern techniques of mineral processing to the huge potential of raw minerals; (2) redefining a large category of mining wastes (waste dumps, tailing ponds) as secondary resources fated to re-processing; (3) investigating the role of regolith in the soil geochemistry and assuring a correlation between these parameters and the best practices of crop growing. The proposed project aims at the use of the top geological knowledge to reinforce the research in the fields of raw materials processing, soil science applied to vegetal culture and exploration for critical raw materials. It was imagined as a bridge between the geological research and a part of the domains that benefit from its results (ore processing, waste recycling, grapevine cultivation, ore exploration). These goals are convergent with the attempt to find the best practices for reducing the environmental impact of some heavy metals and metalloids through a better monitoring and recovery, by choosing the best geochemical context as terroir element, by optimizing the prerequisites for critical raw material extraction, by an optimal storage of the geological databases flagship for economy. The project is served by a skilled team of experts, by the expertise, logistical facilities and the up-to-date equipment of the leader institution, as well as by a system of partnerships with institutions from abroad.
