Abstract:
Food waste occurs at all stages in the food supply chain (e.g., production, consumption), and 40% of this waste is attributed to fruits and vegetables (FV). Consumer preference for perfectly shaped FV and the rigorous quality standards related to FV appearance used by food services and retailers are some of the reasons for FV wastage. In this context, the WasteConnect’s general objective is to reduce FV wastage through a collaborative approach between farmers, food services, retailers, and consumers within the circular economy paradigm. The project deals with fresh FV, both with normal and abnormal shapes. Furthermore, it investigates the causes, impact, and coping strategies related to FV wastage at farmer, food services, retailer, and consumer levels. The project will use a mix-method approach based on literature review, focus groups, surveys, in-store experiment, and an online platform. A representative sample of consumers will be surveyed. The questionnaire will rely on the Theory of Planned Behavior that will be extended by adding “knowledge” as an intention mediator. The in-store experiment will reveal which are the most suitable messages to stimulate the purchase of abnormally shaped FV. The online platform will connect stakeholders by communicating available and requested FV quantities. Thus, the project fits within the circular economy paradigm and it stimulates the economic, social, and environmental responsibility of food chain members.

Abstract:
The project has responded to a current needs to optimize the quality of the working environment for UBB employees and, in the same time, for UBB students through the health risk avoidance caused by radon accumulation in buildings.
Within the project, the monitoring plan was establish and it was implemented in 60 places from different UBB buildings. In each of them were performed determinations of the radon activity concentration in indoor air by passive methode and where the annual average of radon concentration exceeded the reference value of 300 Bq / m3 were performed active continuous measurements. Furthermore, in all the areas with exceedances of the average of 300 Bq / m3, there were made determination of radon exhalation flow from surface, radon activity concentration from air samples inside the fissures and determination of radon potential from soil around the building.

Abstract:
Strengthening the self-help competencies of the population is the primary objective of this project. Critical information about recognizing and dealing with possible hazards and risks should be provided to citizens by effective education and communication in a bid to avoid injury and life-threatening situations. Therefore an effective and proactive education program has to be provided across all levels of the population. Young people will require a special approach, as they have to be engaged in a different manner to adults. Information must not terrify them; in fact the fear of accidents and disasters has to be removed. To make the young people’s environment safer is a first step. But it is much more useful to sensitize themselves towards possible dangers in everyday life. In doing so, they will learn very fast how to protect themselves against potential threats. Most accidents can be avoided by prevention through effective education. There are many measures, which can be taken to improve one’s situation in an emergency, as well as to protect others. In the first minutes after an accident or disaster, before professional help arrives, the knowledge of facts and specific interventions will ensure that no further harm occurs.

Abstract:
Radon with its decay products, it is classified as one of the most important risk responsible for development of pulmonary cancer. Because Romania has no systematic studies on geographical regions of the country and legislative recommendations for protection against residential radon, it is necessary to take measures to correctly quantify the indoor and outdoor concentrations of radon, identify high-risk or radon-prone area and mapping radon.
The main purpose of the project consists in developing radon maps in 16 investigated counties of Central, North-West and West regions (covering 41% from Romanian territory) according to EU recommendations, based on monitored environmental factors (residential, soil and water radon). The project results will represent Romania on the European map of indoor Radon levels and Geogenic Atlas of Radon and will be integrated into an international common framework performed by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission (EC).
The innovative nature of the project consists in this proper first Romanian Radon Atlas based on systematic indoor, soil and water radon measurements (the first in the country), territory covering about half of the country. The proposed activities will constitute a premiere in Romanian and European Community regarding the action plan of research concerning the Geogenic mapping of radon based on soil systematic measurements. A map in the „three-dimensions” (indoor-soil-water) is a novelty at international level.

Abstract:
Increasing our knowledge about the earthquake phenomena and their effects at the earth surface is an important step toward the education of population in high seismic risk regions and can contribute to raise the awareness about the earthquake risk and possible mitigation actions. A pilot program called The Romanian Educational Seismic Network (RoEduSeis-Net) will be implemented to all levels of preuniversity education throughout Romania. In this direction two viable paths will be experimented in seismic risk educational efforts. The first one has an immediate impact, and it is strongly based on traditional communication supports as booklets, brochures, web sites, public seminars, teacher training and conferences. This is mainly dedicated to nursery, primary and secondary school cycle. The alternative approach is instead grounded on advanced technologies and use of web-oriented accessible tools. The project goal is to create a community for education in seismology where teachers and students run simple and inexpensive seismometer systems for detect earthquakes. This approach is willing to make high-school students the main actors of the scientific experience about earthquakes, by leading them along the laboratory research trail, made of seismogram observation, measurement, analysis and interpretation. In addition, three interactive exhibits will be developed by the project partners aiming to increase the student and public awareness on seismic risk using advanced scientific equipment and real laboratory experiences aided and maintained by specialized technical staff. Driven by the high-tech development of earthquake observation systems, the educational seismology in schools can represent a suitable, integrated environment which makes students, active users of modern technologies rather than passive consumers and the selected vehicle for such training is the seismological observation.

Abstract:
The SINPHONIE project (Schools Indoor Pollution and Health: Observatory Network in Europe) is a complex research project covering the areas of health, environment, transport and climate change and aimed at improving air quality in schools and kindergartens. The project is implemented under a European Commission service contract (DG Sanco, Health and Consumer Protection Directorate).
Thirty-eight environment and health institutions from 25 countries are participating in the SINPHONIE research project in order to implement Regional Priority Goal III (RPG3) of the Childrenís Environment and Health Action Plan for Europe (CEHAPE), which is to prevent and reduce respiratory disease due to outdoor and indoor air pollution.
The SINPHONIE project is an example of the practical implementation of the EU Environment and Health Action Plan.

Abstract:
A group of optimum geographically spread partners from 4 top RO universities, one RD institute, and 5 SMEs join into “Competence center on Lower Danube Basin-coastal Black Sea ecosystems protection and restoration” to develop a complex SRA according to EU Mission 3 targets. The SRA philosophy is implemented in the complementary activities of the 5 proposed specific projects, tackling state-of-the-art issues of environmental sciences, sustainable development of the Danube River and Black Sea basins, ecological restoration of degraded systems, industrial research and engineering for water treatment, nanotechnology for molecular biology and immunology. The existing top-tier monitoring, lab research infrastructure, and technical innovation facilities, and the previous experience of all partners in national and international R&D collaborations are prerequisites for the successful implementation of the proposed specific projects targeted on the environmental parameters monitoring, analysis, and complex modeling on the continuum tributary rivers - Danube – delta/lagoon/coastal area – Black Sea. The economic and environmentally sustainable DSS for the protection and restoration activities within the LDB and the applicative technologies for residual marine macroalgae valorisation will foster community development and increase participatory governance, impacting local and regional communities to a blue-oriented socio-economic growth and better protection of biodiversity and ecosystems.
