Abstract:
The project "STEAM in Motion: Nature, Technology, and Cultural Heritage" by the "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University of Iași aims to stimulate the interest of high school students in the North-East region of Romania in STEAM fields, with a special focus on food, bioeconomy, natural resources, biodiversity, and the environment. To integrate pre-university education with scientific research, the project targets activities within UAIC's research stations and faculties such as Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, and History/Archaeology.In our proposal, STEAM includes Archaeology, adding educational value without diminishing the importance of the arts. The main objectives are to develop students' experimental skills and strengthen the connections between pre-university education and academic research. Proposed activities include research workshops, lectures, visits to laboratories and research stations, training sessions for teachers, and a Science Game competition, supported by modern STEAM-specific platforms (FabLab), high schools/colleges, student associations, and other ONG(s).Participants will explore innovative solutions for biodiversity recovery, sustainable conservation, and ecosystem restoration, thus contributing to the promotion of a sustainable future. The project adopts an interdisciplinary methodology through interactive and applied activities that stimulate critical thinking and the development of students' transversal skills.

Abstract:
The GEOMONITOR project proposes an innovative integrated solution for monitoring and managing the risks associated with natural and anthropogenic phenomena in Slănic, Prahova County. Given that the town of Slănic was built on a salt massif with insertions of clay and sand deposits, the vulnerability of this area to phenomena such as subsidence, landslides and subsidence is high. Thus, the project aims to conduct investigations based on advanced geophysical, geological, hydrogeological, and remote sensing techniques and to develop a multidisciplinary real-time monitoring system.
The project methodology includes investigation techniques such as electrical tomography (ERT), refraction and reflection seismic, microgravimetry, radar interferometry (InSAR), LiDAR scanning, and aerial photogrammetry. The collected data will be integrated into an interactive portal to visualize data and research products. The system will include a monitoring network with GNSS stations, seismic stations, and building sensors, facilitating rapid ground and building deformation detection.
Project deliverables include the production of a detailed geological map, developing a working prototype of the monitoring system, and the implementing an automatic alerting mechanism for authorities and an application for the population, allowing both receiving and providing information/alarm signals to experts.
