Abstract:
In the frame of the QUANTEC project, the consortium formed by the Institute of Space Sciences (CP), the Romanian Space Agency (ROSA) (P1), the Polytechnic University of Bucharest (UPB) (P2), the "Ferdinand I" Military Technical Academy (ATMFI) ( P3), National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics (ICI) (P4), Romanian InSpace Engineering SRL (RISE) (P5), TRANS SPED SRL (TS) (P6), Control Data Systems SRL (CDS) (P7) and Terrasigna SRL (TRRS) (P8) proposes the establishment of a national research and development center - Quantec Center - whose role is to assimilate emerging technologies in the field of quantum communications.
The role of this center is to contribute and support the institutional actions of education, research and companies in Romania for the development of an ecosystem in the field of quantum telecommunications, which will ensure national industrial competitiveness in this field. Among the specific objectives of this project is the establishment of new facilities for the development of equipment / infrastructure for quantum communications. In this sense, the development of the following laboratories is considered: L1 (Quantum Experiment) - laboratory of quantum optics, L2 - laboratory for the integration of quantum communication systems and for testing these systems, L3 - laboratory for the development and implementation of infrastructures necessary to participate in the communication program quantum and optical satellite, CDOC - center for documentation and dissemination of skills in communications and quantum cryptography. The results of this project will be disseminated nationally and internationally in academic / RDI and specialized industrial environments, and the Quantec Center will be promoted through media and communication activities dedicated to both the European Commission and the European Space Agency ESA, both these institutions being essential in the implementation of the European EuroQCI initiative.

Abstract:
Antenna arrays make use of space diversity to improve the receiver performances in terms of signal detection, parameter estimation, and sensitivity, supporting the implementation of advanced techniques like direction-of-arrival estimation, source localization, beamforming and user tracking. In this context, this project aims to design an adaptive retrodirective system using an array of antennas controlled by Software Defined Radios (SDRs), able to perform beamforming operations.
The scope of the project is to provide a comprehensive solution that: (1) identifies the target user (during the network association phase); (2) locates the target user by means of SDR-controlled antenna array and localization algorithms; (3) changes the antenna radiation pattern by means of SDR-controlled beamforming to improve the SNR of the target user; (4) tracks the target user through an adaptive radiation pattern; (5) prioritizes the traffic for quality of service improvement. The scope is to be reach through a comprehensive implementation of a threefold development approach: (1) on the PHY layer for the SNR improvement of the target user by means of antenna radiation pattern adjustment, (2) on the MAC layer for QoS support assurance by means of traffic prioritization for the target user; and (3) on the upper layers to ensure high security, confidentiality and small latencies for the target user by means of specific autentification and routing functions. Using the SDR NI USRP modules combined with LabVIEW software provides a flexible, cost-effective approach. LabVIEW together with the NI USRP platform supports the implementation of a reconfigurable antenna array composed of multiple synchronized Tx/Rx modules that can undergo run-time calibration procedures, thus providing a testbed suitable for the rapid prototyping of antenna array signal processing algorithms. The platform will provide the support needed for rapid prototyping and testing of various algorithms and antenna array architectures, the developed software allowing the customization of the solution in order to meet the application requirements, independent of the hardware providers

Abstract:
Sea Lice in open sea aquaculture is the most significant and widespread pathogenic marine parasite, causing health issues to cultured fish and a severe risk for the marine environment. The LiceSonic offers an environmentally friendly, chemical free and low maintenance solution for sea lice control based on ultrasound technology. Our idea is to develop a system that only targets sea lice when they are present in the facility, by combining the technology with fish- and water quality monitoring.
