Abstract:

The RoNaQCI project represents a key step towards implementing state-of-the-art quantum technology (QT) with the aim to approach and mitigate major challenges raised by the digital era, among which the most prominent are secure communication and enhanced computing capability based on the laws of quantum physics. Moreover, the project is perfectly aligned to the Digital Europe Programme, as its primary objective consists in building and deploying a secure quantum communication infrastructure in Romania that is intended to serve as the local backbone of a future “quantum Internet” on a wider EU scale.

Abstract:

The project aims to develop the National RDI Strategy for the security industry and space domains for the strategic planning cycle 2021-2027, related to the new European context of coordination of research for the security industry and space domains.

The development of the space and security industry, which includes also the defense industry, is essential for national development by ensuring, without limitation to: the increase of national power; integration of the country in the context of political alliances (EU, NATO, ESA, EDA, OECD), both as an industrial and technological actor; efficient use of the competitive capacity of national industry for the proposed period of development towards the EU average.

The attainment of the national strategy specific to these areas is achieved in a favorable European context in which the role of space, security and defense is significantly growing, the coordination framework is redefined (setting up DG DEFIS, setting up the European Space Program Agency - GSA / EUSPA , etc.), simultaneously with the definition of the new financial planning cycle for the period 2021-2027.

The implementation of the project, proposed by a consortium consisting of the main national actors in the fields of security industry and space, will be ensured through a wide consultation of organizations working in the field (responsible public institutions and authorities, research organizations, universities, SMEs, industry, industrial and professional associations, etc.).

Identifying national competences and concerns in the fields of security industry and space, defining / identifying national priorities in relation to European policies, identifying tools to support and increase capacities and competences, analyzing the legislative, financial and technological frameworks specific to these fields will be substantiating elements of the strategy.
