Abstract:
The Cizer church, built by Horea (Vasile Ursu Nicola, 1731-1785), located in the Romulus Vuia National Ethnographic Park, the open-air section of the Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography, was restored within the project “Restoration-preservation and putting into value of the Cizer and Petrind churches “funded by the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2017, carried out by the Cluj County Council in partnership with the Transylvanian Ethnographic Museum and the Northern Urban Design Association.
The present project will lead to a higher level of valorisation of this monument through the innovative techniques of virtual reality, for a thourough exploration of the painting, structure and techniques of construction as well as for the recovery and exposition of the original inventory of the monument, consisting of the heritage assets donated to the Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography by the Episcopate of Vad, Feleac and Cluj in 1966 and other patrimony assets or entered into the heritage of the museum
together with the monument.

Abstract:
The postdoctoral research project aims at scientific investigation, digitization, reconstruction and promotion of the ornamental Dacian shields using virtual reality and augmented reality techniques. This research will have an important impact both in the field of cultural heritage and in the field of digital restoration of cultural heritage assets. The research within this project follows the direction of research specific to the cultural heritage recommended by the European Commission, namely, to use modern digitization solutions to acquire detailed 3D models of each individual detail. The digitization methodology in 3D format will ensure a very good accuracy fact that will allow to identify the similarities between the ornaments of this type, in addition the 3D scanning realized within the project and the database of the ornaments related to the Dacian shields of the parade will allow to 3D reconstruction of the two stolen shields from the archaeological site of Piatra Roșie, which are still being searched by INTERPOL. This scientific comparison from the point of view of the digitized details in 3D format will allow to identify the ornate shields that were created in the same workshop and that used the same stamps. The dissemination within the project will be done through the development of an interactive virtual reality application compatible with HTC Vive and an augmented reality one that will be distributed free of charge directly on the web platform of the research project page. The digital applications are aimed at raising awareness regarding the current status of the Dacian ornamental shields.

Abstract:
ASTERCRIG project proposes an interdisciplinary approach of classical and digital conservation - restoration of an important symbol of our cultural heritage, namely the Imperial Gates belonging to iconostasis from Transylvanian wooden churches dating back to 15th-19th century. From two counties from Transylvania: Cluj and Salaj, the wooden churches will be investigated in order to establish the conservation status of the imperial gates. One of the selected counties (Salaj) have large parts of their territory declared as “disadvantaged areas”. The best preserved ones are those which are still in use. The depopulation of the rural area reduces their number year after year. Some of the inactive churches were saved by including them in open air village museums. Also valuable artistic artifacts were saved by moving them to such museums. After a theological, artistical and historical evaluation protocole, two imperial gates from each county will be selected and investigated. Several analytical methods (non-destructive and/or destructive) will be used complementary for the investigation of wooden support, painting layer and varnish. The digital reconstruction method will be based upon accurate scientific analysis (Raman, FTIR, chromatography methods, XRD, etc.) as well as modern engineering tools specific for reverse engineering. Based on this digital restoration, a virtual 3D museum will be realized that will include the imperial woods, classically and digitally restored. The scientific and technical results will be presented during an international symposium dedicated to cultural patrimony conservation and restoration. A printed catalogue containing the imperial doors, classically and digitally restored will be edited.

Abstract:
The project aims at 3D digitising heritage items from the Orăştie Mountains Dacian fortresses area which are present on the UNESCO monument list. Due to the scale of the digitising activity proposed by the project (over 500 objects), this can be seen as an absolute first, as it would warp Romania straight amongst the EU’s top five contributors in the 3D object category.
The project proposes for the first time an incursion into the Dacian everyday life as it emerges from the archaeological findings documented in almost 100 years of systematic research of the Orăştie Mountains sites. Advertising such aspects as well as facilitating the general public’s access to heritage will have the following effects: an increase in public awareness and accountability of those visiting the monuments (which are largely left unattended), the stimulation of civic awareness towards their protection, the encouraging of local authorities to attract investments aimed at building the infrastructure needed in modern tourism, the start of fund raising activities for monument conservation, the inclusion of artefacts relevant for ancient everyday life in a 3D format into the educational process of present and future generations.
