Abstract:
In the face of an unprecedented global climate challenge, the "Centre of Excellence for Climate and Societal Changes" (CECSC), aims to unravel the complex relationship between climate change and human behaviour. CECSC's interdisciplinary approach brings together experts from fields such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, geology, geography, sociology, psychology, history, archaeology, ethnology, and linguistics. The center's strategic plan is based on three key Research Directions. The first, “History and Culture”, evaluates long-term human responses to climate changes. The second, “Climatic Impact”, integrates observational data, paleoclimate reconstructions, and climate simulations to understand the interplay between climate change, societal impacts, and human behavior. The third, “Human Behaviour”, integrates findings from past climate adaptation behaviours with current practices to develop strategies for promoting pro-environmental behaviours. To support its research, CECSC is establishing a state-of-the-art isotope and geochemical laboratory, and developing and an AI tool that determine climate-related behavioural change determinants in individuals. Through its groundbreaking research and initiatives, CECSC aims to make significant contributions to the understanding and advancement of climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies, providing new knowledge of regional climate change at a ten-thousand-year time scale in the peri-Carpathian region.

Abstract:
Textile dyeing determines a significant water consumption and produce contaminated aqueous wastes, facing numerous challenges. The textile industry has a High impact on the environment, especially in relation to the effluents that are released, with intense color and increased values of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and suspended solids. Because of the complexity of the textile wastewater and the residual color resulted from dyeing processes, the wastewater color removal is a major priority for the textile industry. Removal of dyes from industrial wastewaters is a global concern, because dyes cause many problems in aqueous environments, significantly affecting photosynthesis activity of aquatic plants by reduction of light penetration and may also be toxic to some aquatic life due to the presence of aromatic compounds, metals, chloride etc. In this context, the project purpose is to investigate the performances of an advanced wastewater treatment method resulting from the combination of Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOP) induced by technological irradiation (gamma or e-beam ionizing radiation) and biological treatments. Advanced wastewater treatment system will be focused on eliminating refractory compounds resulted from dyeing processes (dyes, heavy metals and chemical auxiliary agents, many also known as persistent organic pollutants or POPs), as well as on obtaining of a higher wastewater treatment yield and on possibly to reuse the wastewater treated in production process. A demonstrative model of laboratory wastewater treatment will be developed and tested, by combining the biological and advanced oxidation radiation processes (BIO-AOP), emphasizing both bioremediation potential of microbial strains before and after gamma radiation AOP treatment. Technical and economic advantages over classical wastewater treatment methods will be highlighted.

Abstract:
The Bio-Gamma complex project proposes, in accordance with the PCCDI2017 program, the institutional development of a representative consortium dedicated to providing conditions for exploiting and improving partners' expertise in the field of gamma irradiation stimulation of bioactive compounds biosynthesis with applications in bioeconomy. Gamma rays-induced cellular stress is proved as a useful tool in manipulating secondary metabolite biosynthesis. By extracting and characterizing them, we can obtain useful compounds for the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food and special materials industries. The proposed activities ensure the partners sustainable institutional development and the valorization of their expertise in products, patentable and transferable technologies to the economic end-users. The project targets especially markets with high dynamics, as the ones of food and dietary supplements, thus subserving the priority field of Bioeconomy. Thinking about gamma irradiation as a central pillar, the project is proposed by a consortium of five institutions with complementary expertise and recognized for their scientific performance (two national research institutes, an Romanian Academy institute, a university and a research institute) with a good regional spread: Bucharest, Ilfov, Giurgiu, Arges and Cluj. Two of the institutions are potentially relaunching, and one is a newly built infrastructure. The joint project agenda provides conditions for the development of a collaborative perspective among partners, with a positive impact especially on institutions with a potential for relaunching. Hiring young researchers and assisting them in training courses will lead to an increase in the human resource quality of all consortium members. Regarding the institutions with the potential for relaunching, it will increase the level of competence and competitiveness, ensuring a consistent institutional development in the future, at both scientific and managerial level.

Abstract:
PELL AMAR – A NAME IN SEARCH OF ITS LOST FAME
Finding that sapropelic mud has biotrophic, regenerating, sedative, analgesic, anti-inflammatory properties, Dr Ionescu Călineşti had two ideas that led to a Romanian brand of great success in 1970:
a) he inferred the synergistic effect of the combination of minerals, enzymes and organic substances, mainly its holistic healing action;
b) he obtained by atomization, a concentrate with enhanced curative effects.
The extract was called PELL AMAR and was used in over 40 products: pharmaceuticals (including injectables), cosmetics, food supplements. After some clinical trials (1980) PELL AMAR products were used for treating ailments such as rheumatoid polyarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, cervical, dorsal, lumbar vertebro-peripheral osteoarthritis, gonarthrosis, coxarthrosis, scapulo-humeral periarthritis, tendonitis, synovitis, bursitis, sprains, bruises, dislocations, contusions, psoriasis and localized scleroderma, burns.
After 1990 the products disappeared from the market, at the same time with their production infrastructure, and with the legislative changes which cancelled the old authorizations. In 2010, the products reappeared with the establishment of SC PELL AMAR COSMETICS SRL, which in the last 3 years has demonstrated that the sapropelic mud extract can successfully cope with the technical and commercial demands of the cosmetics market.
This project aims to increase the quality and competitiveness of PELL AMAR - COSMETICS range, which are already produced and initiate a new category of PELL AMAR – PHARMA range, by significant changes in the technology, base product and derived products and also by upgrading the approach of production, verification and control process,.
The basic ideas are:
• Upgrading the technology by:
1) replacing the atomization concentration with the lyophilisation concentration;
2) introducing a new stage of irradiation treatment of the lyophilized extract;
• Upgrading and improving the base product - microbial sapropelic mud extract, because both elements of technology modernisation will have consequences in product upgrading.
• Introducing regulatory elements that improve the Quality Management System of SC PELL AMAR: standardizing the solid extract and establishing a set of physical, chemical, biological tests that unequivocally characterize the product, by following the model in the European Pharmacopoeia and thus facilitating the authorization of the products in the pharmaceutical range.
• Establishing and demonstrating the manufacturing technology on its range of derived products:
- Cosmetics (biotrophic effect, regenerating, sedative);
- Food supplements (boost immunity, relieve rheumatic pain)
• Demonstrating the therapeutic effect of a product with topical application (ointment in rheumatic diseases) and initiating the studies necessary to the documentation for changing its categorization from cosmetics to pharmaceuticals.
The dissemination of the project results will be one of the tasks of all members of the partnership. It will be focused on two target groups: a) persons and institutions having specialized technical & scientific knowledge - scientific articles, patents, national seminar, project’s site; here the focus will be on the technical & scientific results); b) the general public - articles, interviews in the media, brochures, newsletters, movies, showrooms; here the focus will be on improving the quality of life).
The consortium partners have been chosen according to three criteria: competence, complementarity and cohesion. Competence is proven by certification, accreditation, licensing.
Complementarity is needed for solving all the problems that the project will be facing, and cohesion is based on the previous relationships between the partners.
Project coordination is undertaken by the economic partner and the project director, an economist, is also the general manager of the economic partner.
