Abstract:
The project will establish a high-performing multidisciplinary Centre of Excellence specialized in the investigation, preservation and promotion of Romanian cultural heritage (CH) using cutting-edge technologies. CulTech is a synergistic structure that brings together complementary research capacities of 11 highly relevant research institutions and a team of over 200 specialists from Romania and abroad providing expertise in history, archaeology, art history, numismatics, ethnology, ethno-choreology, musicology, bibliology, conservation-restoration, museum science, architecture, photography and data acquisition, 3D scanning and modelling, NC manufacturing, physical-chemical analysis, AI, XR, robots, IoT, multimedia, pattern recognition etc. The common theme which coagulates this extensive multidisciplinary team is innovation in tangible, intangible and born digital CH protection and valorization for future generations. Therefore CulTech will design and implement innovative approaches based on a ground-breaking interplay between material components of the CH and their digital replicas, or Digital Twins (DT). The concept of DT for CH is central for the project. Through DT and cutting-edge technologies, CulTech intends “to preserve our cultural heritage and bring it to this digital decade”. The project responds to Romania’s Strategic Research Agenda, providing new transdisciplinary, holistic approaches to support the sustainable management of CH.

Abstract:
At EU level, the demanded honey quantities are not satisfied by internal production. As a result, significant quantities are imported from other countries outside EU (i.e. China, Argentina) which need a rigorous control, honey being the third most adulterated product in the world. Its price tendency will be directly reflected in the rarity of a certain honey type, either in terms of geographical or botanical origin. In this case, the temptation of passing some counterfeit, cheap honeys under the label of some exclusive ones, in order to gain an illegal profit exists among some sellers or unfair producers. In this context, this project aims the development of new chemometric models able to differentiate among honeys with distinct geographical and botanical origin and also to detect honey adulteration through the addition of cheaper honey types to much rare honey varieties. Metabolomic approches based on vibrational (IR, Raman) and fluorescence spectroscopies will be developed, their classification potential being compared and validated based on acknowledged methods like isotope and elemental profiling. The large generated experimental data sets will be processed using supervised chemometric techniques (LDA and SIMCA) as well as artificiall intelligence (Machine Learning). The development of predictive models able to differentiate among distinct honey varieties and to identify adulterated samples using Machine Learning will represent a novelty at international level.

Abstract:
The project aims to develop a multi-criteria method for the authentication and attribution of paintings (murals, on wood, on canvas) from the medieval and early modern periods belonging to the national cultural heritage. The proposed semi-automatic method is based on a decision-support system platform (IDART) developed within the project, which is built using a "convergent approach to truth" principle. The project relies on trans- and interdisciplinary tools: art historical, physical-chemical, iconographic and theological analysis, database, programming and image processing. The IDART platform consists of a database that includes metadata obtained from art documentation, photography -HDR, VIS, light grazing, IR, UV-, sampling and in-situ physical-chemical analysis of the support and ground layers as well as of the colors and the varnishes using XRF, FTIR, Raman, LC and GC-MS techniques. For each image that is to be authenticated we shall define several regions of interest (ROI) used for the automatic search in other artworks from the database which also share the common details defined in the ROI. The process of identifying the common elements of two or more paintings takes place in several stages using various filters which limits the target group so that in the final stage they can be analyzed by the art historian in order for her to finally be able to authenticate and attribute them. Image processing will use algorithms derived from the Cross Correlation method that can be also applied to photographs not belonging to the visible spectrum. For the development of the image processing algorithms we shall use signed paintings, while other works attributable to the same painters will be used for validation. The final result of the project will be suitable not only for academic use, but it can also be most valuable to the institutions responsible for the preserving and/or promoting our cultural heritage, private collectors and other professionals in the art market.

Abstract:
One of the most important questions in enology and prevention of adulteration in wine are grape varieties, geographical origin of wine and year of vintage assessment. The falsification may be more or less sophisticated and the quality of falsification as well as its cost increases with the improvement of analytical methods, and there is always a competitive technical race between the falsifier and the researcher in the detection of food adulteration.
The general objective of project is to increase the analytical capacity of Mass Spectrometry, Chromatography and Ion Physics Laboratory from National Institute for Research and Development of Isotopic and Molecular Technologies, Cluj-Napoca, in terms of wine authentication capabilities, by the development of new lab-validated models that would be possible to be transferred to economic agents together with the existing accredited methods for which our laboratory is already recognized at European level like Official Laboratory for Wine Control. The novelty degree of the proposed project is given by the corroboration of some unconventional techniques for white wine authentication with new chemometric methods for the processing of analytical data, using various fuzzy algorithms.

Abstract:
Increased demand for esthetics in stomatology domain has led to an increase in the use of CAD/CAM high-strength but expensive ceramics. Among the ceramics used in these new systems, zirconia was the main focus of research because it offers a range of properties that make it suitable for use in dentistry: biocompability, high fracture resistance, low thermal conductivity, resistance to corrosion and a totally crystalline microstructure. An inherent problem of the material is a phenomenon known as spontaneous aging, hydrothermal degradation or low temperature degradation. These factors change its crystalline phase from tetragonal to monoclinic, which increases the volume (4% to 5%) of the crystals causing the loss of their mechanical properties and the appearance of micro- and macro-cracks. By adding small percentages of yttria (3-5% Y2O3), these phases changes are eliminated, and the resulting material has superior thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties.
In brief, the research of upgraded or new biomaterials is related to the crucial topic of the enhancement of the life conditions with respect to the cost of healt care.
Our proposal refers to high-performance metallic oxides – stabilized zirconia material that combine the excellent structural properties of dopants in terms of chemical stability, biocompatibility and extremely low wear and of zirconia with its superior mechanical strength and fracture toughness. The effective dopants of the proposed materials for this study include MgO, CaO, Al2O3, HfO2, SiO2, Y2O3, TiO2, Fe2O3. High sensitivity techniques are used for structural investigations.
The final goal of the proposed project is: i. To develop solutions for a better stabilization of zirconia by adding of performanted metallic oxides. ii. To develop complex research on the structure-property interlations and on the characterization of the effects about the colour modifications, iii. To integrate advanced biomaterials in the stomatologic domain.

Abstract:
Abstract: Batteries are essential in modern society as an excellent source of mobile energy. Almost 95% of the materials in a lead-acid battery are recyclable. Since the positive electrode and negative electrode active materials are composed of PbO2/PbSO4 and Pb/PbSO4, lead is the most important raw material of lead acid batteries. UE Directives have as aim higher rate of recycling and improvement of the batteries performance. The problems concerning the lead recycling from spent car batteries can be summarized as follows: i) the reduction of pollutions and energy consumption, ii) the reduction of energy and time used to convert oxides and sulfates into metal which is subsequently reconverted to oxides, iii) ineffective desulphurization, iv) low solubility of lead compounds in solvents. The specific topic is based on a new approach regarding Recycling of Electrodes of the Car Batteries as new sources of alternative energies. The author recently developed electrode glasses based on Pb-PbO2 and Pb-PbO2-PbSO4. In this sense, efforts will be made to create the complex packaging: i) to recycle electrodes of the car batteries by an eco-innovative technology and ii) to integrate recycled products as electrodes in the construction of new rechargeable batteries. Performances expected will consist of: 1) synthesize of materials; 2) optimize of performances; (3) fabricate batteries; (4) compare the batteries performance (5) report results in peer-reviewed journal.
