Abstract:
The cultural heritage, as a source of national historical and cultural authenticity, is subjected to deterioration, and for stopping it, some specific procedures are required: cleaning, replacement of old materials and application of new protective materials compatible with the original, and advanced monitoring with sustainability assessment. The consortium of the present project has a unique expertise in Romania, recognised in Europe, through the many published papers, essential projects in Romania (Basarabi Churches, Potlogi Palace, etc.), OSIM and EPO patents, technology transfer, nanomaterials in chemical and biological preservation for cultural heritage objects and objectives; the partner institutions complement each other on a regional basis in the working plan of the whole project.
The overall objective of the project is to develop new materials, new methods and technologies that obey the principles of authenticity, reversibility and value, with a strong impact on immobile cultural heritage objects (fresco, basreliefs and mosaic) and mobile (decorative artefacts from ceramics, glass, metal, bone, objects of art and archaeology). Specific objectives: Developing innovative technologies for protecting national cultural heritage, multidisciplinary cross-sectoral approach, encouraging young professionals as leaders in heritage preservation, exploitation of research results for new jobs, promoting heritage education, professional expertise among all factors involved in the patrimony protection system.
The project, with a high degree of innovation and originality, applies unique technologies in Romania based on new materials compatible with the original materials and develops new techniques practical applied to: Roman Mosaic and Hypogeum Tomb, Constanta, Adamclisi Museum (basreliefs), Constanta County, Corvin’s Castle (Fresca Loggia Mathia) and Archaeology Museum, Hunedoara.

Abstract:
The MALASENT project proposes the development of research competencies of the consortium members in the field of advanced materials and their novel processing technologies, as well as a potential transfer towards industrial beneficiaries, for the energy production and complex decontamination of water and air. The scientific objectives associated this project proposal are the following:
- development of catalytic systems based on advanced materials processed by laser techniques and plasma, for complex processes of decontamination of residual waters and reduction of toxic exhaust gases emitted by internal combustion engines.
- development of heterostructures of advanced materials obtained by laser techniques and plasma for the production of energy through photolytic dissociation of the water molecule or photovoltaic.
- integration of the advanced materials through laser/plasma techniques in photocatalytic and photovoltaic applications at the industrial level.
The project proposal aims to consolidate, numerically and professionally, the human resources of the consortium, especially for the partner institution with recovery possibilities. Moreover, the project pursues an increase in the service providing capabilities for research services and in the establishment of consolidated collaborations with industrial beneficiaries, as well as in the visibility at the national and international level of the consortium members.

Abstract:
More than 40% of groundwater from agricultural area of European Community (including Romania) have nitrate concentration above guidelines value. Toxic and persistent organochlorine pesticides have been detected adjacent to nitrates in water sources. Thus removal of nitrates and organochlorine pesticides from water is becoming a developing area of research. Along with Good Agricultural Practices, additional actions like water treatment can speed up water sources remediation.
This project focus on the development of an efficient and cost-effective integrated technology for the nitrate and pesticides removal from water contaminated as a result of the agricultural practices, leading to the protection and remediation of natural water resources. The project considers all the steps necessary from the development of suitable treatments up to the elaboration of the experimental model for the integrated water treatment technology. This approach maximizes the benefits of the project by combining innovative water treatments to reduce the environmental impact generated by the two important classes of water pollutants. Up to now the removal of nitrate and organochlorine pesticides from water was considered separately, through individual treatment processes. Our project proposes an integrated approach while several combined processes (catalytic liquid-phase reduction, catalytic advanced oxidation and ion exchange process) might be applied for both nitrate and organochlorine pesticides removal. Novel catalysts based on noble metals supported on nano-structured alumina or ion exchange resins will be used in this respect. The proposed technology could be applied for drinking water treatment and water resources remediation as well. The multidisciplinary Consortium is well balanced to achieve the global goal of the project with scientists experts in various water treatments and water analysis, advanced materials synthesis and materials complex characterization.
